Who am I?

My name, Ou Chouly (pronounced OU Julie in English) was given by my grand father (the father of my mom) who is originally from China. So Chouly is a Chinese name; Chou means ruby and Ly means beautiful.

I was born just 2 years after the fall down of Pol Pot regime, to a medium class family with three younger brothers in a big town located in the western part of Cambodia, named Battambang. However, every one treat me as the youngest as I am the smallest:)…My home town, Battambang is famous for many things for example: singer, actors/actress, rice producer and good soil quality for growing vegetable and fruit (especially orange or so call “Kroch Pursat”in Khmer).

My parents are very low educated. They did not have chance to finish primary school. I am the only one who have opportunities get high education and the highest in the family. Since childhood, I always aim to study as high as I can and pursuing PhD is the top goal…

In my family, I am a stubborn daughter as described by my mom. I am a hard-to be convinced person and not easily follow others but I like others to follow me! haha…:). It may be because I was born as the eldest in the family and always lead all decision making.

At school, as a teacher, I am a strict but a reasonable teacher (I hope), whereas when I was a student I was a ??? …

I am an enthusiastic person. I have interests in varieties of things including but not limit to: reading, writing, …shoping (when I have $).

One thing that i hate myself the most is being lazy. I am lazy to get up early and always return to sleep after turning off the alarm clock. Another bad quality of mine is that I am a person who easily get bored. I easily get annoyed with talkative person and doing routine job.

However, I am a person who never give up doing things until i achieve my goal no matter how hard it is or how much i have to invest. For example, when I strive to gain all A in all subjects at AIT even though i have to sacrifice my sleep, pleasure,…I almost went no where during my course work period; I hardly slept for few weeks when exam coming…;I almost did nothing besides focusing on my study. I can say during that period, what i have in mind was “getting all A in all subjects”. I forgot almost every thing such as friends, family,…I rarely call home, i never sent or response to any emails…i rarely checks my personal email. i would say it was the study-only year for me. i devote myself to all causes of study.

I am a person who do not believe in superstition, ghost or god. I believe in things with scientific evidence. I am a difficult to convince person unless there is scientific prove. I am a reasoning person. I believe every thing has reasons. Natural phenomena has its own reasons and so social phenomena. Even though many times we do not know the reasons but those reasons are out there for us to explore.
